Meine Freundin Sandra Fuentes aus Miami ist zu Besuch auf Mallorca. Es ist ihr erstes Mal und sie hat sich gleich verliebt. Not surprising.
A night with the russian artist Icon Zar
To me it was no surprise that Mallorca is a place filled with art galleries and upcoming – as well as renowned – artist from all around the world. It´s a cosmopolitan island creative people come to with the dream to show their work.
And so a few weeks ago I had the chance to see one of these artists: Her artistic name is Icon Zar.
Lora Leder, is a recognized artist who lives on Mallorca since 2003. She was born in Moscow, Russia and was brought up under the “Soviet Regime”. She likes to call herself “The last daughter of Russian communism“. And so because of the “No Freedom” and anti-capitalism mind set, she has always been attracted to vivid colors with strong themes, which in many ways represent freedom of expression. Icon Zars paintings, most of them of a considerable large size, were a combination of media. From oils, to ceramic paint, to silicon and even the artist own hair.
The artist – all dressed in black – circulated through the crowd with ease and I could see her soul in every piece of art shown that night.
Icon Zar at the new art gallery „No. 12“
Her work was shown at the new gallery “Local No. 12” in one of the best districts of Palma de Mallorca. The gallery was opened by 20 year old Laura Jana Welches.
Once I entered the art gallery I felt the vibrancy of the people. I enjoyed being surrounded by the colors Icon Zar used for her paintings. The exhibit consisted of different periods and they were distributed among the three floors belonging to the gallery.
The gallery was buzzing with people from different ethnicity which is a true testimony of how her art works moves the hearts of people. The atmosphere was lively and there were tapas served and servers filling our wines glasses with red, white wine and cava to keep the attendees happy.
I was attracted to one of the large paintings in particular: A lady showing her femininity to the world expressing herself with an open invitation for anyone to come into her world.
To say that I enjoy the evening is an understatement. I loved to see people that came together to enjoy one of life’s greatest pleasures: The visualization of life thru the eyes of an artist.
The „Icon Zar“ exhibition continues in „Local No. 12“ – Passeo Mallorca 12 in Palma de Mallorca until the mid January 2016.
Opening hours:
10-14 and 16-20 (MO-FR)

Icon Zar is considered the most energetic and colorful artist of modern Russia and her masterpieces bring Russia and Europe closer together in a form of art for all tastes.
